Happy Thanksgiving! This week we will finish our work in the New World! We will have survived the winter, built houses, found food, and protected the colony. By Wednesday, we will make peace, trade, play games, and have a "cranberry" feast with the Native Americans. Sounds like fun!
I will send home the Interim Test results on Monday. Remember, these tests are designed to drive my instruction in the new trimester. I will hold conferences before and after school in January for anyone who would like to talk to me. Thank you for your understanding.
Reading: No Trophies reading this week. This time will be used for the Pilgrim's Simulation. Read over the track break and take AR tests in January. Beginning in January, the AR tests will count as part of your reading grade. (Reading is required nightly homework.) If you have any questions about this program, please see me.
Math: This may be an easy week for some students, but I think that it is important to fully understand multiplication processes. Ch. 6
Review all multiplication facts.
Language:In language we continue to practice cursive letter formation. We will write about our experiences in our Pilgrim Logs.
Computers: "Type to Learn", Accelerated Reader Tests, Math games.
Science and Social Studies: On Wednesday afternoon, we will do eight center activities using cranberries. ('Tis the season!) We will use the science process skills: observe, communicate, measure, infer, classify, and predict. We will also finish our Pilgrim simulation. I hope that you all survived the winter in the New World.
Spelling: None this week

SO........DAILY HOMEWORK: (NO HOMEWORK THIS WEEK: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!)
15-20 MINUTES--READ--Self-selected novels on your own reading level (approved by the teacher) If you are reading an Accelerated Reading Program novel, you may take your tests at school (as time allows) during computer time or language arts time. Five points are required each month beginning in November. THIS IS THE TIME TO BECOME A STRONG READER. JUST DO IT!
PARENTS: There are daily reading assignments based on the self-selected novels that will be completed during class time. Students will be asked to write about what they are reading in their own novels. I RECOMMEND THAT THEY HAVE A SECOND COPY OF THEIR BOOK TO KEEP AT HOME OR TO READ A TOTALLY DIFFERENT BOOK FOR THEIR NIGHTLY READING. They MUST have their self-selected novel in class EVERYDAY to complete these class assignments (examples are: writing about characters, setting, sequence of events, problems in the story, their opinion, etc.)
15-20 MINUTES--REVIEW MULTIPLICATION FACTS AND SPELLING WORDS ***Tests are usually Fridays. STUDENTS WHO QUICKLY LEARN THEIR WORDS OR FACTS, CAN DO ACTIVITIES ON LAMPING WEBSITES.
30 MINUTES--Math homework in the black workbook or Excel worksheet (See agenda daily for specific assignments.) RETURN the workbook or worksheets THE NEXT DAY for me to check. ADDITIONALLY, the students might have a review worksheet in LANGUAGE ARTS.
